Good Overview but Beware...

The textbook is a good Christian overview of basic psychology but be prepared to re-write the chapter quizzes in the Teacher's Pages and double check that the questions are actually in the text. I was under the impression they were correct and was very embarassed in front of my whole class the second week when this wasn't the case. I have had to re-type nearly every quiz because of errors. Otherwise I have enjoyed the book itself and it has made for some very good class discussions.

My daughter and I began on what I considered an almost impossible task: finding a high school psychology book written from the Christian perspective. I had looked a year or two ago, without success. But this fall I found Mr. Rice's newly-published book. We have so far read the first two chapters of Psychology and our reading has prompted lively discussion. We have found Psychology to be clearly and intelligently written and, unlike some textbooks, it is enjoyable and interesting to read. I appreciate that Mr. Rice discusses worldview/belief as a background to one's approach to psychology. I am glad to have found this book!

A Must for Every Christian Student

I wouldn't dream of sending my children off to college to hear a liberal perspective on psychology without first teaching them the truth. This book does just that. It teaches all of the basic principles of psychology but from a Christian worldview--sans evolution, sans humanism, sans all the relativism that is so popular today. It doesn't preach Christianity; it just puts psychology in perspective for the Christian. Thank you, Dr. Rice!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Frederick Nolan, a.k.a. ‘Frederick H. Christian’, was born in Liverpool, England and was educated there and at Aberaeron in Wales. He decided early in life to become a writer, but it was some thirty years before he got around to achieving his ambition. His first book was The Life and Death of John Henry Tunstall, and along the way he became an authority on the history of the American frontier, founder of The English Westerners' Society, and something of a connoisseur of western fiction in the days when it was a flourishing literary genre.

In addition to the Angel westerns, Fred also wrote five entries in the popular ‘Sudden’ series started by Oliver Strange. Among his numerous books is the best-selling The Oshawa Project (published as The Algonquin Project in the US) which was later filmed by MGM as Brass Target, starring Sophia Loren, John Cassavetes, Max von Sydow, George Kennedy, and Robert Vaughn.

A leading authority on the outlaws and gunfighters of the Old West, he has scripted and appeared in many television programs both in England and in the United States, and authored numerous articles in historical and other academic publications. His award-winning books on Southwestern frontier history include The Life and Death of John Henry Tunstall (1965), The Lincoln County War: A Documentary History (a New York Times ‘Book of the Year’ in 1992), Bad Blood: The Life and Times of the Horrell Brothers (1994), The West of Billy the Kid (1998), an annotated edition of Pat Garrett’s Authentic Life of Billy the Kid (2000), and a popular introduction to the history of the frontier, The Wild West: History, Myth and the Making of America, published in 2003.

Army Training At Home

It's true what Grant says at the start of this book, there's a reason why they do chin ups and press up as part of army training. Because they're the hardest form of training but nothing builds up muscle strength like they do. I was a fairly fit guy in my twenties but let things go a bit when I got married. Now I'm in my forties, it's time to tackle the fat and regain some of the muscle. I liked this book because the exercises are easy to follow and you can do them at home. I'm not a gym type of guy. I haven't worked out in years. But I've doing these exercises for 4 weeks now and I'm amazed by the results. Thanks Grant.

Sounds Easy, Right? Wrong.

When I saw the title of this book, I had to have it. I love a challenge and I thought this one would be an easy one to conquer. I mean 30 chin ups in 30 days, how hard can that be? Granted I'm not the fittest of guys. I run a couple times a week and played Judo when I was younger, much younger, but I was looking for something to get into and this came along at the right time. I flicked through the book, saw the assisted chin ups and negative chin ups and thought, no problem. Uh, wrong, big problem. A couple of repetitions are easy enough but building it up, that definitely took practice. I got a friend to help me and we decided to tackle the challenge together. Don't waste your money

If you're like me and you find the Medieval languages of Europe fascinating, you might try learning Old High German. Don't bother getting the 'new' book version of Wright's 'Old High German Primer.' The layout of the book have been taken from the text version of what's already been uploaded to places like Google Books and the Internet Archive. This format is terrible.
If you really want to learn Old High German, Wright's Primer is the place to go, but get it free off online. Don't waste money with a poorly produced new version. If they had used the scanned form (like the version at UPenn, or the pdf version) it would be a different story.

Looks very interesting, just beginning to use this book.

I am just beginning to use this book for my genealogy hobby. I am researching my medieval ancestors and the time period I'm working in is the time of the Old High German language. Charlemagne etc spoke Old High German. It is helping to understand documents I run into as well as giving an idea of the way they spoke back then. Very cool. Again, I'm just beginning to use, so I will surely be reviewing it better later.. I am excited to have it.

Douglas C. Montgomery, PhD, is Regents' Professor and ADU Foundation Professor of Engineering �at Arizona State University. With over 35 years of academic and consulting experience, Dr. Montgomery has authored or coauthored over 250 journal articles and 13 books. His research interests include design and analysis of experiments, statistical methods for process monitoring and optimization, and the analysis of time-oriented data.

Cheryl L. Jennings, PhD, is a Process Design Consultant with Bank of America. An active member of both the American Statistical Association and the American Society for Quality, her areas of research and profession interest include Six Sigma, modeling and analysis, and process control and improvement.

About the Author

Michael D. Lyman is Professor of Criminal Justice at Columbia College of Missouri, located in Columbia, MO. In addition to being a teaching faculty member, he serves as the program Coordinator for the Master of Science of Criminal Justice Program and the founder of the college’s Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science Program. Before entering the field of college teaching, he was employed as a criminal investigator for state police organizations in Kansas and Oklahoma and has taught literally thousands of law enforcement officers in the proper police techniques and methods of professional criminal investigation. Dr. Lyman has authored numerous textbooks in criminal justice dealing with the areas of criminal investigation, policing, organized crime, drug enforcement, and drug trafficking. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wichita State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri–Columbia. He has been called upon on an estimated 300 occasions by law enforcement and the legal communities to review criminal investigations and render the results of his evaluations and his opinions in federal court proceedings nationwide.

I am nearly done reading the book. There are so many typos and duplicated paragraphs! It is like they released a draft and forgot about creating a final edit. For the money it costs to get this book, I expect the editor/author to at least try.
