About the Author
Melissa Connor is the director of the Forensic Science Program at Nebraska Wesleyan University where she teaches Forensic Archaeology and advises students in the Investigative Sciences. For 15 years she was an archaeologist for the U.S. National Park Service where she worked on projects at Grand Teton National Park and Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. She worked with Physicians for Human Rights in exhumations in Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nigeria, and Sri Lanka. She also worked in Iraq with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Regime Crimes Liaison Office on mass grave exhumations.

Forensic Methods - Rare new material

Forensic Methods is the first book for archaeologists and crime scene investigators to delve into how to exhume remains in legal cases. Dr. Connor does a great job of relating how archaeologists fit into a forensic or legal case. She not only defines the methods and best practices for forensic archaeology, she gives incredible case examples from her US and international work, ranging from Nebraska to Croatia, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, and Iraq.
The book should be required reading for any archeaeologist who wants to become involved in crime scene work. Criminal investigators will profit from it by learning about the current best practices in archaeology and the capabilities that field can bring to crime scene reconstruction.
Many general readers and crime scene enthusiasts will find a good deal of interest in the volume as well.

Great introduction to forensic archaeology, reads easily enough to retain informtion & pictures accompany for examples. The author is an instructor @ Nebraska Wesleyan University & also the director of the school's Master's in Forensic Science Program. She's a great teacher & the book followed the course work...making it easy to learn & retain concepts.

The Workbook: A book to help you do the work!

This book goes beyond the smaller 12 Stages of Healing book by Donny Epstein in terms of actually learning the breathing exercises. The concept and state of consciousness associated with each of the 12 natural rhythms we experience is described, but more importantly we're getting juicy instruction on how to tune into our body with touch, breath, movement and energy. Healing isn't a passive process and this book helps you take charge of your healing by giving steps and information about finding where along the spectrum of consciousness you're currently resonating and how to deepen your experience of that place. I have read the whole book several times, and now it sits close to hand for quick reference when I want to do somato-respiratory integration or better understand my bodymind.

Not completely useless

I was attracted to this book by all the positive reviews, but now that I've read the book, I have to wonder if the good reviews are all fake. They all say "verified purchaser" but they all read as if they're written by the same non-native English speaker and all within a couple of weeks of each other. The book was free for awhile and maybe that's when "they" all "purchased" the book.

In any case, I found that the book's explanations are abbreviated--like someone who was trying to demonstrate their knowledge instead of teaching it--and often non-sensical or incorrect. The organization and writing would also be confusing to a PowerShell beginner, I think.

I learned a couple of things I didn't know before, which is why I say the book isn't completely useless, but it's not worth $2.

Replete with errors! Do not buy!

Wow! The book is replete with errors.

1.In chapter 3, under the sub-heading "Quotation Marks," Matthew refers to the "gave," when he meant to say grave (by-the-way, it's pronounced grah-vay, NOT grave as in the burial site).
2.There are countless places in the text where spaces are omitted between words. How did your spell checker/grammar checker not catch this, or did you use one? For example, in the second chapter, paragraph 2, there are multiple cases: "type inGet-Help", "for exampleGet-Help," and another case of "type inGet-Help" at the end of the paragraph. Good grief.
3. The results of his little exercise towards the beginning of chapter 3 is totally wrong from what I got in the ISE. Test your example to make sure it is correct!

At this point, I didn't even bother continuing with the book. This many errors in the first three chapters comes off very unprofessional and sloppy.

This is an good book for people just getting into PowerShell scripting. This will teach you the must-knows but it's up to you to progress beyond the basics the books teach. You will learn to be productive with PowerShell quickly.

Horney Still Tied To Freud

Unfortunately, this is the worst Horney's book, for several reasons. First, This is a compendium of articles and speeches, not a book that has unity, a beginning and end. It was not edited by the author and therefore, it lacks the good flow of thought that her other books have.
Second, these writings are from an earlier phase, when clearly Horney was still very attached and afraid (?) to challenge Freud. I am not going to beat a dead horse here, since there are so many critics of Freud around, but some of his theories sound just like wild guessings to the point of being ridiculous. It feels like Freud has never seen a real child in his life. Horney accepts Freud's psychosexual ideas and swallows them hook and sink: there is no doubt that Horney at that time (1928, 1930) was totally Freudian. Her criticism is just a hint, in two or three very small topics, like penis envy in girls. And even in these topics, she doesn't really challenge her guru and idol Freud.
The later Horney with her brilliant neurosis theory is totally absent from this book. I wonder what her ideas would be had she written a book on the same topic just before her death.

A POSTHUMOUS COLLECTION OF ESSAYS (NOT NECESSARILY REPRESENTATIVE OF HER FINISHED VIEWS)

Karen Horney (1885-1952) was a German psychoanalyst and psychiatrist, who is sometimes classified as "Neo-Freudian," although she questioned/challenged many of Freud's theories (particularly about psychosexual development).

These essays (mostly from her earlier period; many of her ideas matured from the position expressed in some of these essays) were collected and published in 1967 after Horney's death, so they lack the cohesiveness of her books (e.g., Neurosis and Human Growth: The Struggle Towards Self-Realization, Self-Analysis, Our Inner Conflicts: A Constructive Theory of Neurosis). There is a helpful introductory essay by editor Harold Kelman.

"Or, to look at it from the point of view of succession in time, that it is wounded womanhood which gives rise to the castration complex, and that it is this complex which injures (not PRIMARILY, however) feminine development."
"Like all sciences and all valuations, the psychology of women has hitherto been considered only from the point of view of men. "Male homosexuality has for its basis, in common indeed with all the other perversions, the desire to escape from the female genital, or to deny its very existence."

This book addresses end of life issues in an easy to understand manner. Most people do not know what to expect when a loved one is dying and, though each death is unique, it gives a person an idea of what to expect. Great book.
