Elementary Homeschool Science Lab

I got The Science Kit to supplement our elementary homeschool science curriculum - and it's been GREAT!

The kit comes with:
• an easy-to-read and understand, stand-up flip-book of approximately 50 experiments with light explanations,
• a book (in typical DK style) which includes another 50 or so experiments with more detailed explanations,
• a book of blank pages to keep experiment notes,
• and many of the supplies you need to complete the experiments from the flip-book.

Each colorful page in the experiment flip-book includes step-by-step instructions for a simply completed experiment. My 8 year-old son can read and complete the experiments on his own, although I'm usually following along to make sure he understands the entire scientific concept. There is a small explanation about the experiment right on the instruction page. My son loves the little blank book where he can draw or make notes about his experiments.

None of the experiments from the flip-book require a bunch of supplies. Luckily, unusual supplies are included in the kit - LED lights, goldenrod paper, a bar magnet, plus LOTS more. Other supplies necessary for various experiments - like baking soda, vinegar or batteries - are easily found around the house.

I'm impressed by how many different scientific concepts are covered. Buoyancy, acids/bases, flight, magnetism, sound, color, light, chemical reactions, electricity, motion and air pressure are just some of the topics covered!

In the book that comes with the kit, titled Explore Science, you won't find the same step-by-step layout as the flip-book, but the experiments are still very engaging. I like that the experiments in the book give a bit more explanation. Many of them go right along with some of the experiments in the flip-book, so we would often do an experiment from the flip-book and then move into Explore Science to gain more insight into the particular topic.

My son has been super-motivated to do science using this kit! The colorful, easy-to-read instructions with all the fun supplies draw him right in. And, the ease of completing and understanding the experiments keep him focused. It's a great resource!

A lovely love story .....

The Doctor's Runaway Bride by Sarah Morgan
Harlequin Presents # 2366 - December 2003

Dr. Luca Zattoni follows his pregnant runaway bride to England, only to find that Tia doesn't want to see or speak to him again. He surprises her when he takes a job as obstitrician at the hospital where she is a nurse/midwife. Luca knows that their whirlwind affair in Italy and her unexpected pregnancy, has really scared Tia. But he can't understand her reluctance to continue their relationship; she refuses to tell him what shook her up so much that she left him waiting at the altar. Tia's been in love with Luca from the moment she met him, but she knows that Luca really doesn't want to marry her and only proposed because of the baby. And on her wedding day, she overheard Luca's mother in conversation with a beautiful woman. And what she heard made her positive that Luca would be happier without her and her baby.

This was a charming story. I love the way Luca moves in on Tia's world, but still respects her wishes to step back and give them both room to get to know each other. Ms. Morgan created a lovely love story and I'm glad Tia and Luca found their HEA.

It Was Alright

This book was alright, nothing exceptional but not awful either. I actually really liked the hero, he wasn't overly aggressive or demanding like the hero's in these books usually are. The heroine could have used a bit more of a backbone, many of their problems could have been resolved if she'd just talked with the hero.

My main issue with this book was that it spent entirely to much time on medical issues that had nothing to do with the development between the hero and heroine. If I wanted to have the definition of a bunch of medical terms than I would invest in a text book. I wish the author would have spent more pages on the development of their relationship than on their jobs. Also, one more thing that bothered be was the overuse of the word bleep. I don't know if that's a common word in the UK or not but it was severely overused in this book.

I agree with the review of It Was Alright. I thought I was reading a medical book on pregnant women and giving birth. It was entirely too much medical jargon for me. The only good thing in this book is the depiction and description of Luca Zattoni. He was to die for and the only thing that kept me reading. Tia acted and sounded like a little girl. She wanted things all her way without having any proof that Luca loved someone else. She only overheard a conversation and unlike most women confronted with a piece of news on the day of her wedding, instead of confronting him and asking for answers she runs off like a spoiled child. I am a fan of Sarah Morgan but this is one book I could have done without.

Intuitive Econometrics Book

This is a clearly written book on empirical data analysis that is equally valuable for both academics as well as working professionals. The authors of this book avoided matrix algebra and calculus in presenting the complex econometric models. The book stands out by its intuitive approach using many examples and without any sophisticated mathematics.

While doing empirical analysis, we often use the same kinds of solutions (or models) over and over again, and call a given solution (model) as tool and collection of solutions as toolkit. This book, a reference manual to econometrician's toolkit, explains the solution (tool) to use for a given empirical analysis problem using "Empirical Research Tool Box". Each tool box explains goal, implementation and correct interpretation of a given tool.

The toolkit covers advanced econometrics models for time series, categorical and panel data analysis.

The book presents an integrated approach on how to conduct and write up an empirical research project. Starting with data collection and management, it delves into how to describe the data, present the empirical results and conclusion.

Also Excel as the choice of data analysis tool makes this book very approachable, easy to adopt and become immediately productive even for non-statisticians. Stata commands are given for all the models in the toolkit.

This is a great book for those interested in learning econometrics from an applied standpoint. Like other reviewers said, it avoids matrix algebra and calculus, making it a great book for an applied regression or basic econometrics course for MBA students interested in making better data-driven decisions.

Hope and help on the way

Dinah Temple has been there herself and understands the pain and confusion the reader is in. Her advice for rebuilding your life as a newly single person is full of hope and encouragement.

The book, Picking Up The Pieces is awesome!

I am to Chapter 8 now. It was so amazing to me the words I read with the instructions on what to do. It was exactly what I have been doing now since the divorce. It was legally final yesterday so I'm totally a free man now. As I was reading the book it was as if I could have written down everything I have been doing in my life now and we would have had two identical books. I know I have to be on the right track now!

This isn't the book I ordered and I feel that it was sent to me intentionally because the book I did want was quite controversial. I've tried to contact Amazon and the seller about returning it to no avail-so I'll keep it but I'm not happy about the mix up at all.

She subscribed to�True Crime�and�True Detective, reading each edition faithfully while plotting her fiction novel she never wrote. Twenty-five years later, she met the love of her life never thinking she'd be involved in a real-life crime. After her fiance�'s murder, she followed his guidance by way of ADC's, (After Death Communications) and penned their first two books,�Wake Me Up! Love and The Afterlife, and,�We Need To Talk: Living With The Afterlife.�

While writing her first novel, Lyn was introduced to the spiritual arts of energy work. She pursued meditation and went on to study Reiki Healing, Aura Energy, and Chakra Balancing. Really loved my pets

Really loved my pets, Miss them so much, After reading this book I was convinced that they also loved and miss me, so many signs that they are with me every day.. so many questions answered of the unusual things going around me that I could not figure out, but, now I have answers...You must believe , and accept ... they are with you, and when our time here on earth ends, we will all be together again..

Wonderful book

I had to put my 17 year old Yorkie to sleep 2 months ago. Unfortunately, his body was shutting down and I could not let him suffer.
I'm lost without Stewie. He's the love of my life.
I always believed in getting signs from the afterlife.
I found this book. It is a great read. I am a complete believer that my Stewie is always with me and we will always stay in contact. I've gotten sings almost everyday including dream visitations, hearing him walking around my room and drinking from his water bowl, I felt him lay next to me on my bed, cloud formations of his face, and he sends me cardinals everyday.
It's very comforting to know that Stewie is always around me and that I'm able to communicate with him. I know he loves me unconditionally and when I need him or feel really sad, he sends me a sign. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who lost their beloved pet.

Terrific Introduction to Game Theory Experiments

I recently used this book in an introductory course in experimental methods in political science, taught at Columbia University. (I used the book in a seminar for juniors but it would also be appropriate for first year graduate students.) The book was recommended to me by a leading experimentalist in political science, and its easy to see why. It is filled with practical suggestions, on everything from recruiting subjects, to writing instructions, to analyzing data. It's many references to the literature (as well as sample syllabi) are very helpful. It is also short and readable, and reasonably priced. One caveat: if you are more interested in the psychology tradition to laboratory experiments, there are more appropriate books. Also, it does not deal with field experiments. But if you are interested in the game theoretic/economic tradition of laboratory experiments, it is hard to beat as a practical introduction. In short, a terrific book.
